My very fist time in the United States - July 2008

After 13 years working in the field as a service and commissioning engineer I finally made it to the United States. To be exact... to Coralville in Iowa, where you hear the corn grow :-)

But in early June this year, just a month before I arrived, Iowa’s profusion of rivers and streams were swollen by a string of heavy rains. The result has been a nearly two week long sweep of flood waters from the North Central part of the state toward the southeast. The circumstances in Iowa did not occur overnight, but no one could imagine the abnormal weather would persist for so long.

One month later when I came to Coralville and Iowa City, the water was already gone. Most of the businesses were down. Hundreds of sandbags were still laying there. But recovery was aleady in progress and I'm proud I became a very small part of the recovery works in town, since I had the opportunity to re-install a complete chocolate production line at Bochner Chocolates. It was a great experience!
